PARAKUMBA VIHAARAYA... 

From grade 1 to grade 5 I went to  buddhagosha dhamma school.. That is the dhamma school in golden temple.... ok... what is this golden temple? yeah … you are correct..  

'RANGIRI DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE ' is known as GOLDEN TEMPLE.  I have many childhood memories with this temple... 

As we all know this is a world heritage site situated in sri Lanka... It is situated in dambulla city which is situated in central province, sri Lanka..   I am not going to tell much about history of this temple.. because you all learned it in your art syllabus... 

Today I'm going to tell some interesting facts about dambulla cave temple... you all know that there is a big rock in this temple... actually this temple is situated on a big rock.... in the foot of this rock there is a temple with golden buddha statue... and when we climbed the rock, on the top we can see other temple... cave temple.. majority knows only these two temples only.. but there is another historical temple other side of this rock. that temple is known as 'sri parakumba viharaya/ sri walagamba piriwena'  actually today this temple has the custody of other two temples. this 'parakumba vihaaraya ' is situated in beautiful village... that is my village...Sri Parakumba Viharaya is situated on Piriwena road in Golden cave temple complex about 1 km away from the main road. At the first, this was the temple that one of the four administrative temples of the cave temple complex, now known as Sri Parakumba Piriwena. One time, main entrance to the cave temple situated within the premises of Parakumba Viharaya. According history, in 1848 at the temple, Gongale goda Banda who was the leader of rebellion against to the British, was crowned as king “Sri Wickrama Siddapi “by Ven Giranegama Thera and Weera Puran Appu was nominated as the prime minister. That historical event was turn out at the Pilimage of the temple and it is still visible to the people at premises of the temple  .
now days most of foreigners are visited to this temple.. because there is another beautiful path is started from this  temple to climb the rock... so if you visit dambulla cave temple next time try that path... it will be a different beautiful experience...
